A very (very) short review of the Mexican/Latino representation I’ve absorbed in the past two weeks:

amessofwildflowers:

The Punisher (Netflix): Within 10 minutes, a scene opens in Mexico, a cartel member is being celebrated back home and Frank Castle assassinates him.

Ozark (Netflix): Within half an hour into the first episode the great antagonist is introduced, a Mexican cartel leader who’s money the protag is cleaning.

Shameless (Showtime): An ICE raid evacuates a good half of Fiona’s restaurants work staff, brown people flee the resturant in a horde after Fiona mercifully yells “ICE”. Fiona smiles at the ICE agent and gets to work covering her now detained/fleeing employee’s positions.

American Gods (Starz): the episode opens on a group of latinos, crossing the border into Tejas who are ultimately (mostly) grotesquely murdered by Border Control in a grand and gratuitously violent scene meant to showcase latino devoted Catholicism.

While it’s all disgusting, at this point I’m not even mad at Trump for calling us all rapists and criminals; what is he doing other than repeating what the media inundates us with?
